Ed Tullius, last year's winner, also challenged, finishing third (17:46).
Flanagan, who suffered a stress fracture late in 2006 that caused him to miss virtually all of the 2007 racing season, said, "I'm finally rounding into form." He noted that he bumped up his training this summer, running fifty-five to sixty-mile weeks. He has targeted the 2009 Ogden 20K Classic and The Parkersburg ½ Marathon as goal races.
Heather Wayt, Wheeling Central's boys and girls cross-country coach, reprised last year's victory with a time of 19:45. Michelle Feathers (21:36) and Diane Basich (22:04) took second and third respectively.
Mouse Yoker won the 5K walk in 30:17, nineteen seconds ahead of Jim Matysiak. Jeffrey Smith took third in 31:33.
Amber Olnick grabbed first place honors among female walkers with a time of 33:42. Annette Vingia (34:14) and Jodie Hohman (34.54) placed second and third respectively.
More than two-hundred ran or walked in the race, which benefits the programming of the Ohio County Society For The Prevention of Cruelty To Animals.
Editors Note:
Race Director, Tom Rownd, celebrated the 10th anniversary of the Auggie's 5K Run and Walk. "This is the largest turn-out that we've had in two years. I hope all of you come back next year for even more great prizes. We'd really like to thank WesBanco and all of our amazing sponsors for their exceptional support."
iPlayOutside is proud to say that we've been at every Auggie's race since the very beginning. We'll be at many more.
