About the Trails

There are over 30 miles of trails of which most are true singletrack at its finest. Mountwoods trails offer something for everyone. Although some maps online still show ORV trails, ORV's have not been allowed in Mountwood for many years. Most of the trails in the immediate park are for hiking and biking only. There are horse trails available in a nearby location with a horse camp located at the park.

The park is 2,600 acres of rolling woodlands with excellent running, hiking and mountain biking trails. The area of Volcano and Burning Springs has a rich history in oil production dating back to 1860. West Virginia's first oil pipeline was constructed here in 1879. Not much remains of the Volcano oil field, but if you keep your eyes open you will see remnants of the old industry including many wooden stave tanks.
