7th Annual Newsweek 24 Hours of Canaan

WVOutside survived the insanity on June 6th and 7th. This was the 7th year for the annual Canaan ritual where teams of up to 5 riders, and a few crazed individuals, compete to see who can mountain bike the most miles in 24 Hours. This year's version really tested the riders with weather conditions that resembled late November rather than early June. The daytime temperatures rarely made it above 60 degrees(F) and the night time temperatures dropped to near freezing. To make matters worse, a cold rain fell all day Friday and let up just in time for the race. However, light precipitation fell throughout the weekend with the threat of storms always present. There were even reports of light snow flurries on top of the mountain! We took a whole lot of pictures that we put on-line so you can see what the racers endured from the comfort of your home or office.
