Check out last year's coverage @ 1998 Beech Fork Mt. Bike Race Click here for your race Entry Form This race which, from the beginning, has been sponsored by Huntington Bicycle Center and supported by the fine staff of Beech Fork State Park, places an emphasis on fun. The trails of Beech Fork State Park are the home of the 13th annual Beech Fork Mountain Bike Race, an event that has grown from a small local race to one of the largest independent cross-country races in the state. Last year over 100 racers inaugurate the new Mary Davis Run, a four mile single track trail constructed the previous winter by IBM club, bFAT (Beech Fork Association of Trails). WHEN: Sunday, September 26, 1999
The Course takes the racers on a one mile out and back, on a flat, paved road, then the pack will funnel into the single track of the Lost Trail. A good position at this point is critical, for the single track follows the lake for the next five miles! The next two miles includes a creek grade climb (you probably thought it was flat, if you raced it last year in the other direction!), 200 yards directly through the rocks of Mary Davis Creek, and ending with the 3/4 mile climb to the top of Ruebens Branch. At this point you turn left and follow the ridge for about a mile and a half, to the fast one mile downhill (Remember last years hike-a-bike?). This will bring you back to the Lost Trail and complete one lap, beginners will head out for the finish line, the intermediate classes will do a second lap, with experts completing three...AARGH!! RACE FEE: $25.00 entry fee includes an original artwork T-shirt, a catered pasta meal, and prize table that historically has gone 50% deep in each class.
REGISTRATION: Race Day Registration starts at 10A.M.
You can Pre-Register and be guaranteed a T-shirt. FOOD: There will be a catered meal following the race! SHOWERS: For you and your bike. DIRECTIONS: Take exit I-64 to Exit 11, to Rt. 10 South, approximately four miles to Hughes Branch Road. Follow signs to Beech Fork Campground (approximately six miles), turn right to Activities Building. CAMPING: At the State Park campground, for info. call (304) 522-0303 For more information on the park see Beech Fork State Park
